AST Level 1 Sledder Kelowna / Hunters Range snowmobiling club
This 2 day AST Level 1 course is the introductory course to safe backcountry travel, AND recommended for all sledders going into the mountains. Regardless if you think you know enough, have all the gear, been sledding for 20,30,40 years……. or never go into “avalanche terrain”. There is something new for everyone!!
After completing this training you will have a better understanding about.
-avalanche formation and release
-identify avalanche terrain
-the basics of trip planning
-optimal use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk
-use appropriate travel techniques in avalanche terrain
-intro to companion rescue
When: Dec 21st and 23rd 2019
Where: Kelowna / Hunters Range Snowmobiling Club
Day 1 theory: 8am- 4pm. Location in Kelowna to be decided
Day 2 Field day: 8am- 4pm. Hunters Range Snowmobiling Club
The Cost: $300 per person
What Do I need: Day 1 theory- A pen and notepad for notes, a good attitude, lots of questions, and your best sled stories or close calls. Day 2 field day- you will need Avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel and probe), airbag optional, and a fuelled up reliable mountain sled. Be Ready to Ride by 8:15am on day 2.
